Across three continents, research and languages are the keys to Trevor Lwere's, HYSP '22, success in economics and global affairs

Whether he’s studying in Uganda or France, South Africa or South Bend — or speaking English, Luganda, French, or Swahili — Trevor Lwere has one topic at the forefront of his mind. No matter where he is, the economics and global affairs major is driven to investigate what different cultures and perspectives can teach each other about forming the best society. “Every time I move to a different place, I get curious about how different societies imagine how they should be organized and how they approach life,” he said.

ND Scholars share passion for Notre Dame as members of Cheerleading Team

Senior leprechaun and Hesburgh-Yusko scholar Conal Fagan treats every game as though it is his last and someone else’s first. Conal has been wearing the famed Notre Dame leprechaun mascot’s green suit since his sophomore year and has defined many fans’ experiences along the way. After meeting one family from New Mexico visiting for their first game, he kept in close touch with them and has watched their children grow up. At another game, he fulfilled one lifelong fan’s wish of meeting the Notre Dame leprechaun before he passed away. 

The leprechauns are always at the center of football game days, as well as other athletic events. This year more than ever, though, all eyes have been on them as public examples of mask-wearing, social-distancing, and keeping a positive attitude in the ever-changing campus environment. What hasn’t changed is their commitment to the position and their passion for representing Notre Dame.

Devine Scholar MacKenzie Isaac '20 Studies Culture of Skin Bleaching in the Caribbean

Through the Kellogg International Scholars Program (ISP), MacKenzie Isaac (Devine Scholar, '20) has focused her undergraduate research on the issues of culture, identity, and race that first caught her attention as a teenager. Working for two years with Faculty Fellow Karen Richman, a cultural anthropologist at the Institute for Latino Studies and her ISP advisor, Isaac studied migration patterns of Afro Latinos from Haiti and other parts of the Francophone and Anglophone Caribbean.

Evans Scholar Wukie first female leprechaun; Hesburgh-Yusko Scholar Fagan continues as mascot

Sophomore Evans Scholar Lynnette Wukie was selected as Notre Dame's first female Notre Dame leprechaun. Sophomore Hesburgh-Yusko Scholar Conal Fagan, the first leprechaun from Ireland, will also continue his role as leprechaun for the 2019-2020 academic year.
