The Corde Scholars Program

Contemplative Leaders in Action

At the University of Notre Dame, we believe in preparing leaders who will transform our world. The Corde (pronounced "core-day") Scholars Program is our new initiative to cultivate the next generation of public servants dedicated to justice. The program is designed for students who have heard a call to devote their lives to making a difference.

“Corde” means “of the heart,” and our program embraces contemplative leadership, an invitation to slow down, reflect deeply, and lead with humility and purpose. It’s about knowing yourself, fostering spiritual wellness, and understanding that true impact comes from a place of inner peace and connection.

Our Core Values
  • Faith: Grounded in the Catholic Intellectual Tradition and embracing interfaith dialogue, we cultivate spiritual development through retreats, personal reflection, prayer, and exploration of religious traditions. Students are encouraged to listen to their lives and cultivate inner wisdom.
  • Community: We are committed to forming an authentic human community that celebrates diversity in all its forms – race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, ability, political views, and faith traditions. Our community is a witness to human solidarity and the dignity of all people.

  • Justice: Corde Scholars actively address pressing global concerns like racism, climate change, poverty, and injustice. Honoring Catholic social teaching, we work alongside marginalized communities and changemakers, making tangible and lasting impacts even before graduation. For a world that is hurting, we bring hope.
