Prospective first-year Notre Dame students are selected to receive merit-based scholarship awards based on their highly competitive academic records, demonstrated leadership, and service to their communities. All first-year students admitted to the university are automatically considered for merit scholarships. There is no separate application process. Notre Dame Scholars are identified for admission and selection based on a determination that they possess the personal qualities, talent, and passion to have a lasting impact on the world—to be a transformational leader in the image of Rev. Theodore M. Hesburgh, C.S.C., president emeritus of the University.
